mmmm.....Shrimp and Grits (you can't get any more southern than this)

To those of you who have never had shrimp and grits, you are missing out.  Most people in the south know what grits are but for most people in the north it is a mystery but in fact it is just like polenta. If you've ever asked the question of where grits are grown than you can be assured that you have never had it in your life.  So some time this semester I was really craving some shrimp and grits so I did a little research and came up with my own edition.
There are several things that you will need:
  • Shrimp (about 8-10, deveined and peeled). season with salt and pepper.
  • Sausage (this is optional and you can you any kind you like but the sausage really adds favor to the dish)
  • Instant Cheddar Grits
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Green onions for garnishing
  • A small pot and a small pan
How to make:
  • Make the grits first in the small pot according to the directions on the packaging (after it is done you can add the cheese and let it sit).
  • Cut the sausage into bite size and cook it in the small pan. Cook it for about 5 min. or until it starts to brown.
  • Add Shrimp into the pan with the sausage and let it cook until it turns pink and starts to brown a little.
  • You can add more seasoning for taste but if sausage is used there should be enough flavor.
  • Serve the dish by butting the grits in the bottom of the bowl and the sausage and shrimp on top. Garnish the top with some green onions.
